Vilachery

Vilachery village is one of the important. Heritage village of Madurai famous for its intangible Heritage.The irrigation channel namely NILAIYUR CHANNAL is a Heritage channel which was developed by the historic Pandiya rulers of Madurai . This message is mentioned in the stone inscription as NATTARU ( Which means county side irrigation Channel).This village is having historic Siva temple, Vishnu Temple , Temple of country like AZHGU Nachiamman Temple in an excellent natural atmosphere.The stone inscription of Nayak period ( 16th Century) which was erected near the Nilaiyur channel mentioned about the right of irrigation to the agriculturist of Thiruparankundram area through this channel . The stone inscription at Siva Temple ( Visvanatha Swamy Temple) mentioned that this temple was renewed during 1845 AD and about the donation given by the Ruthrambal during 1843 AD t to this temple.
